FIXTURE NEWS | West draw FC United in Manchester Women’s Challenge Cup Semi Final

West Didsbury & Chorlton will host FC United of Manchester in the Semi Final of the Manchester FA Women’s Challenge Cup at Brookburn Road on Sunday 17th March, 2pm KO.

The draw which took place on Monday sees a repeat of last year’s semi-final which eventually saw the Moston side lift the trophy in the final; defeating Manchester Stingers 2-0 at the Recreation Ground.

West have registered three wins, each with a winning margin or eight or more, to reach the semi-finals for the second straight season; the first win came back in September when they were 11-3 victors away to Curzon Ashton. On that day Elizabeth Livesey and Rachael Dunlop helped themselves to a four goal haul EACH with goals also coming from Jami Hodges, Chloe Spencer and Nat Callaghan.

In the second round they defeated local neighbours Didsbury 8-0 at home with Dunlop and Livesey this time helping themselves to hat-tricks with Vicky Lomas and Spencer rounding off the scoring.  The quarter final was a mid-week affair which saw West take on Cheshire League side Sale United at the Nichols Campus of Manchester College as they ran out 9-0 winners under the lights.  Elizabeth Livesey registered her third hat-trick of the competition whilst Dunlop was forced to settle for a brace.  The highlight of the goals came from Hannah Mitchell, with Orla Conlon adding her name to the score sheet along with Vicky Lomas and Shauna Edmondson.

FC United had a more straight-forward route to the semi-final receiving a bye in the first round before being handed a walkover against folded Crompton in the second round.  They eased into the semi-finals with an impressive 12-0 win over GMWFL Division One side Sale. The other semi-final will see last year’s finalists Manchester Stingers host debutant club Salford City Lionesses.

As a result the GMWFL Division Two clash between West Didsbury & Chorlton Development and Tameside United will no kick off at 11am.
