Community Bonfire Night 2019 – a thank you – West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC

Community Bonfire Night 2019 – a thank you

With nothing left of our bonfire than ashes, and our rockets all popped, we’d like to take the time to thank all who made yesterday’s event possible. As a not-for-profit, volunteer-run club, we are entirely dependent upon the warmth and generosity of the wider community. With this, the club itself wouldn’t exist – and events such as last nights event would not be at all possible. To all our volunteers, we’d like to send the warmest of thanks: whether you’re down at Brookburn Road for every home game, play for one of ur age group teams, or only come down once a year to warm your hands on the bonfire, you made such a special night possible. We’d also like to thank: our outside caterers Bounceback Food, South African Foods, and our cake sellers; Serenity Security for lending a hand on the gate; and, of course, our event sponsors and the providers of our best ever display, Chorlton Fireworks.

Going to all-ticket was a response to the level of demand for the event over the last few years, and the speed with which tickets sold out was encouraging: if you were unable to get your hands on one his time out, we’re already looking at ways in which we can make the 2020 event even bigger and better than last night’s. To all those who came down, we’d like to thank you for choosing to celebrate with West: if you have any feedback on the event, we’d love to hear it – you can contact us here.

Before our 2020 community bonfire comes back around, there’s plenty of football to be played. We’re a community club, and we’d love for you to be a part of it – regardless of whether you’ve been watching the game for decades, or only have a passing interest, we are committed to an open and inclusive atmosphere at all of our games. Our men’s side are amongst the best supported non-league sides at this level in the country, regularly getting more than 300 at home games; our women’s team won their league last season, and remain competitive at a higher level this time out; we have junior sides at all age groups, a veteran’s side, and we’re constantly looking at ways in which we can further build bridges. Over the last few years, our fans have donated to local foodbanks and raised money to help fight period poverty, while we have partnered with local charitable organisations to invite volunteers and service users to games, amongst other initiatives.

Our men’s team next play at home on Saturday against Alsager Town in the Macron Cup (you can see their full November schedule here); our women’s team, are next at home on Sunday 14th November against Crewe Alexandra. We’d love to have you down. You can also follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to keep up to date on the latest information on the club.
