RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by West Didsbury & Chorlton · 31/10/2019
October was a month of cup games, with only a frustrating last-gasp loss at Oswestry Town adding to our tally of league matches played – but November promises to be the point in which West could really stake a claim to be one of the main contenders for promotion in the NWCFL Division One South.
A rare Saturday home game against Cheadle Heath Nomads will kick things off on Saturday 2nd November, although the side from Stockport are in-form, losing only one of their last six matches. Only our second home Saturday league match of the season, your support will be crucial to seeing us over the line.
We’re back at Brookburn again the following Saturday, with the first of the month’s two home fixtures against Alsager Town taking place on Saturday 9th November as we carry on our Macron Cup campaign. The game will be all-pay due to competition rules, but does offer a real chance at a cup run as we approach the midpoint of the season. With a squad filled with quality, there’s also a very real chance of silverware at the end of it, too.
Following that are two South Manchester derbies – the visit of Wythenshawe Amateurs on Tuesday 12 November, followed by a trip to Wythenshawe Town on Saturday 16th November. Both will offer a clear indication of where West sit in the pecking order for promotion, with either Wythenshawe finishing close to the top last time out and pushing again this season. Town especially have brought in some relatively big names, and have a team with the individual skill that surely must be demanding a top four finish, although it was the Ammies who ended the 2018/19 campaign in a loftier position.
Cup action returns the following Saturday (23 November), with a Playermatch Cup draw pitting us away at St Helens Town. Even more so than the Macron, West will have half an eye on going all the way in a competition the club won the last time it competed in (2012/13).
The second visit of Alsager Town is scheduled for yet another Tuesday (26th November) night under the lights at Brookburn, and the month is rounded off with a trip to Shropshire in order to face Ellesmere Rangers on Saturday 30th November.
Once again, we’d like to thank you for your support over the season so far, and look forward to enjoying your backing for these crucial 7 ties.
