RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by Matthew Durrant · 19/03/2018
This Saturday (24 March) our Juniors section are taking over when West host Congleton Town at Brookburn Road, 3pm KO. The boys and girls from the junior section will be taking over from the regular match day volunteers as they serve teas and coffees, greet supporters at the gate and even the exchange of the teamsheets.
From 2pm fans arriving will be greeted by West’s Juniors at the gate; whilst others will be in charge of stalls selling sweets and pop, as well as West scarves and hats. In addition, at kick off there will be a team of match day mascots as well as taking part as ball boys during the game, as well as a penalty shoot-out at half time.
Speaking on Twitter, Junior chairman Tim Manley said, “For the visit of Congleton Town all the match day tasks (bar serving behind the bar and actually playing the game) will be undertaken by the junior section! Look out for ball boys, mascots, half time pen shootout & more”
This is the second time that the Junior Takeover will take place, following on from a huge success for the visit of Abbey Hey last season. You can see a photo gallery of the day here. The Juniors were good luck that day, as West won a tense tie 1-0.
West’s junior section offers inclusive footballing opportunities for boys and girls at ages from five through to 16. The teams from under-9s through under-16s play on Hardy Farm and Chorlton Park on Saturday and Sunday mornings in the Timperley & District Junior Football League. In addition the club runs soccer skills clubs from under-5s through under-8s. West’s juniors have been offering junior football in South Manchester for over 40 years previously played under the name of Oswald Road JFC.
For anyone interested in joining West Juniors can do so through filling out the contact form here.
Before this Saturday’s game, West are at home for a midweek game under the lights as AFC Liverpool come to Brookburn Road on Tuesday 20 March. As ever, entry to each game will be £5, £3 for concessions, and free for Under 12s.
