RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by West Didsbury & Chorlton · 12/07/2019
Following an announcement by the FA, we can reveal our opening games in both the Emirates FA Cup and the Buildbase FA Vase.
West have been drawn to play Squires Gate away in the extra preliminary round of the Men’s FA Cup. This game is scheduled to be played on Saturday 10th August. Squires Gate have been our opponents in the FA Cup twice before, and both times West have exited the competition – improvement needed.
Squires Gate play in the North West Counties Premier Division – the same league in which West competed last season – and beat up at the same stage last season before going on to defeat Droylsden in a replay and then going out to City of Liverpool 5-1 in the first qualifying round.
Should we progress, our opponents in the preliminary round of the FA Cup will be Stalybridge Celtic at their ground, Bower Field – that game is scheduled to take place on Saturday 24th August.
Stalybridge play in the Northern League Premier Division (3 leagues above West) and would represent a major scalp for West – if we were to get there, and pulled off a shock result. Last season, they finished 17th, two points clear of the relegation zone. In last season’s FA Cup, they were eliminated in their first tie, losing 1-0 away to Radcliffe Borough. In their long and storied history, Stalybridge have twice reached the Second Round Proper (1993-94, and 1999-00) when Carlisle United and Chester City eliminated them. In recent times, they reached the 1st round before being knocked out by Doncaster Rovers in 2015-16.
Our opponents for the first qualifying round of the FA Vase will be Cheshire League side Egerton at Brookburn Road, with the fixture slated for Saturday 31st August.
This looks as though it will be Egerton’s first foray in the FA Vase, and we look forward to welcoming them to Chorlton.
Our opposition in the next round, should we progress, would be Runcorn Town away in a game scheduled for Saturday 14th September.
Runcorn Town made the second round of the FA Vase last season, being Guisborough Town after a replay, before losing to Vauxhall away. Their greatest runs came in 2010 and 2011, when they reached the 4th round in each year.
The club have also entered into the FA Youth Cup, and the draw sees us facing up against Cheadle Town at Brookburn Road on w/c September 2nd, and then – subject to progression – Warrington Town or Buxton at home on w/c September 16th.

More details will be announced shortly.
