RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by Robert Lee · 26/02/2023
Saturday 25th February 2023, NWCFL Premier Division
West 0
Wythenshawe Town 2 (Burton 41, Palma 68)
Att: 812
West slipped to their first league defeat in seven games as Wythenshawe Town took the points at Brookburn Road.
In a game low on incident, Jordan Burton and Darius Palma struck either side of half time for the promotion-chasing visitors.
Jean-Jacques Kirongozi had West’s best chance in the opening 45 minutes, shooting over as he broke into the box. But Burton found the net at the other end four minutes before the interval, catching the West backline out and finishing beyond Andrew Jones.
The home side enjoyed most of the ball after the restart, but struggled to threaten Callum Jakovlev’s goal and Darius Palma finished a counter-attack with 22 minutes remaining to wrap up the points.
Jones then had to produce an instinctive save to prevent the visitors adding a third from point-blank range, but West will move onto Tuesday night’s home game with Kendal Town looking to get back on track.
West: A. Jones, Cook, Westall (Smyth), McKnight, Hampson, Foulds, Kirongozi (Matthews), Dickinson (C. Jones), Elliott, Swift (Delaney), Eme (Lewens).
Eckersley’s Plumbers & Locksmiths Player of the Match: Andrew Jones.
We remain 8th in the NWCFL Premier Division.
We make a quick return to Brookburn Road on Tuesday 28th February (7:45pm) for more NWCFL Premier Division action, welcoming Kendal Town.
