A tough afternoon for West as a squad down to the bare bones faced an away trip to Cheadle.

They didn’t help themselves when a defensive error in the 8th minute saw Cheadle take the lead. The home team went on to have further chances over the next 10 minutes or so, but West did improve as the half went on, enjoying greater possession but struggling to test the keeper.

The early exchanges of the second half saw a really good chance for West go just wide, followed by Cheadle hitting the bar shortly after.

On the hour mark, Cheadle doubled their lead. West didn’t let their heads drop, but knocks and illness were starting to take their toll. With no substitutes available, it was a tall order to get anything from the game, and so it proved as Cheadle wrapped things up with a quarter of an hour left.

Hopefully we’ll have players returning for next week’s game, and a quick recovery for those struggling today.

It was better news for the reserves as they avenged a heavy cup defeat to Atherton LR by beating them 4-1 in the league. Goals from Cath (3) and Arshi.
