West secured a County Cup semi-final place with a comfortable win over GMWFL Division 2 team Mancunian Unity.
The match was moved to the 3G pitch at The Manchester College’s Nicholls campus, and it was a relief to finally get another game underway.
West set about their task in positive manner, Rachael Dunlop opening the scoring on 16 minutes, a shot fired across the keeper into the bottom corner following a mazy run. Rach was on the scoresheet again 3 minutes later, a good finish following a lovely through ball from Vicky Frisby. Rach then turned provider on 22 minutes, laying the ball off to Jami Hodges who finished coolly to make it 3-0.
West were awarded a penalty on 31 minutes but the keeper made an excellent save and Rach lashed the rebound over the bar.
A fourth goal was added on 39 minutes, and it was great to see Biff back in the team and scoring with a sweet strike from 20-odd yards.
HT: 4-0 to West
West picked up where they left off and on 47 minutes Jami had her second of the game. 4 minutes later, Amy Vyas took a couple of great touches before scoring with a left foot rocket to make it 6-0.
Rachael Dunlop completed her hat-trick on 74 minutes. Another welcome return for a long-term absentee, Shauna Edmondson got on the scoresheet on 76 minutes, lashing the ball in from 6 inches out.
Goal 9 for West followed probably our best move of the game. Kath Jones to Frisby to Vicki Kerr who crossed for Rach to apply the finish to the centre of goal.
As time was almost up, Kath Jones added a 10th for West, with what was almost the last touch of the game.
