RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE

A flat performance added to the disappointment of this away defeat.
It was a wild and windy day on the Fylde coast and whoever adapted to the conditions best was likely to prevail.
A single chance apiece in the first 10 minutes but keepers on top. Vyas with an excellent through ball that the Fleetwood keeper just managed to grab before Sophie got to it. They almost linked up again on 17 minutes but this time a good looking through ball was just too long for Sophie to get it under control.
Passes and clearances were being under or over hit in the wind and it led to a scrappy passage of play mostly in the middle of the park.
The first person to truly get to grips with the conditions was the Fleetwood 12. She shot from 25 yards and the ball sailed into the top corner giving Liv no chance. The hosts taking the lead on 27 minutes.
Again the game “settled” into a scrappy spell, until Fleetwood had another chance on 37 minutes, a decent effort going just over.
West finally mustered a shot after 43 minutes, but Jami’s effort was over the bar.
Half-time and one bit of magic in the half had given the hosts a 1-0 lead.
There was a change at the break with Woodsy coming on for Jami.
It took 10 minutes for the first noticeable action of the half, a well struck shot from distance by Vyas, but comfortable for the keeper.
On 63 minutes a Fleetwood free-kick drops just over the bar.
A second change for West on 71 minutes, Rach Mason replacing Vyas, which meant a reshuffle at the back. Something had the desired impact, as it instigated the only dominant spell for West in the entire game.
A lovely free-kick delivery from Caddy on 73 minutes eventually finds its way to Woodsy. She turns well and hits a fine shot, but a strong hand from the keeper denies an equaliser. The subsequent corner comes to nothing.
H was seeing more of the ball in an attacking position, and she showed good feet on a couple of occasions, one leading to a shot that wasn’t far wide.
On 83 minutes Fris has a shot which is comfortably saved and moments later Liv has to make a decent save to deny the hosts.
The final passage of play summed up the day perfectly. West still pushing for an equaliser in stoppage time have a corner which a couple of our players can’t get contact on. The ball breaks kindly for Fleetwood and their counter eventually leads to a second goal, and they secure the 3 points.
Not one to live long in the memory for West.
