Preview

West's pre-season programme continues this Saturday, with NPL Division One West side 1874 Northwich the latest visitors to Brookburn Road.

West and 1874 last competed at the same level in 2018/19, with West ultimately succumbing to relegation from the NWCFL Premier Division after losing both meetings, the most recent of which was a 5-1 reverse in January 2019.

The following term, 1874 were within touching distance of promotion and the NWCFL Premier Division title when the coronavirus pandemic brought an early end to the season. Promotion was finally granted in February 2021, with the amalgamation of the two affected part-seasons placing 1874 in the NPL Division One West for 2021/22. Two mid-table finishes have followed.

The Greens were established in 2012 when members of the Northwich Victoria Supporters' Trust voted to form a new club, is fully owned by its supporters and is operated by a democratically elected board.

The Greens play at Barnton's Townfield ground, a venue West supporters will remember fondly as the scene of promotion celebrations just over a year ago, the NWCFL Division 1 South title clinched with a 2-1 win against our opponents' landlords.

Those two clubs met in a friendly last Saturday, the game finishing goalless. Like West, 1874 have already racked up a big pre-season win in Wales, returning from Rhyl with a 5-0 victory. Their one other friendly to date, and most recent, was a 4-3 defeat at Bury on Tuesday night.

1874's traditional home colours are green and black.

Directions

By car:

We encourage supporters to use public transport, cycle or walk if possible.

There is no parking available at the ground for supporters at all. Please instead use Hardy Farm, M21 8DP.

Please also note that there is no parking available on Brookburn Road and the surrounding Chorltonville area as they are private, maintained and exclusively for the use of residents.

There is additional public car parking on Chorlton Ees opposite The Bowling Green pub, who are also allowing supporters to use the pub car park, but there is little other on-street parking.

By public transport:

The Step Places Stadium is one mile from Chorlton Metrolink station, on the East Didsbury and Manchester Airport lines. Follow Google Maps directions to find your way to the ground.

If you are travelling from outside the Greater Manchester area, the Metrolink network can be accessed from any of Manchester’s central train stations. Visit the Transport for Greater Manchester website for tram times and more information.

By cycle:

The Step Places Stadium is a perfect location for those who cycle, being located next to the River Mersey, Sale Ees and only a few minutes away from the Fallowfield Cycle Loop. We have secure bicycle racks inside the ground to lock up your bike throughout the game. Please ask a volunteer if you need assistance.
