Preview
Three points from the final three games will be enough to all-but-mathematically secure West's place in the end of season playoffs.
The first chance to clinch that spot comes this Saturday away at 9th placed AFC Liverpool. West do have a curiously poor record against the Non League Reds, who have won seven of the last eight meetings between the two sides. The most recent of those encounters came in November when this weekend's hosts left Brookburn Road with a 4-3 away win, although that result reflects the only points that AFC Liverpool have taken this season against the division's top 5.
Saturday's opponents are on a fairly good run of form, having won four of their last eight. The other four have all been defeats to teams in or around the playoffs - namely Padiham, Irlam, Lower Breck and Ramsbottom United. A run of four wins and four losses isn't unusual for AFC Liverpool - they have drawn the fewest league games in the division this season (4 from 43). They also boast one of the best home records around, having won 12 of their 21 games at the Marine Travel Arena.
Their main goal threat looks to be Elliot Taylor, who has bagged 26 this campaign, albeit he hasn't scored in four games. Elsewhere, Caleb Jones has 18 for the season, including five in his last six.
The only side who can realistically pip West to 5th spot is Irlam. They host Abbey Hey on Saturday, and a loss for the Salford side will all-but-confirm West's playoff place.
This is likely to be West's last trip to the Marine Travel Arena for some time, with AFC Liverpool moving to Bootle FC's Berry Street Garage Stadium at the start of the 2025/26 season.

Affordable Football Club Liverpool were formed in 2008 by folk musician Alun Parry as an alternative option for Liverpool FC fans who could not afford or could no longer access tickets at Anfield.
The idea seemed to resonate in particular with Liverpool fans that had grown disillusioned by their club’s ownership, and AFC Liverpool had over 1000 paid members within the first year of establishing themselves in the North West Counties Division Two.
That said, its founders were clear that the club was not a protest vehicle akin to neighbours FC United of Manchester, and that they hoped to maintain positive links with Liverpool FC.
AFC Liverpool initially ground-shared with Prescot Cables at Valerie Park and moved in with Marine at the Marine Travel Arena for the start of the 2014/15 season. They have played at this stadium ever since and have been in the North West Counties Premier Division since their promotion in 2021.

West lost 4-3 last February when they last travelled to the Marine Travel Arena. It came in a topsy-turvy match where West led going into the final minutes. However, a late equaliser and a stoppage time penalty ensured that the hosts took all three points to bring end West's three-match winning run.
West's last four trips to AFC Liverpool have seen a total of 25 goals amongst them, although West haven't picked up a point in that time. West's last win at AFC Liverpool came up in a 1-0 FA Cup win in August 2016. Jonny Poizer scored the only goal that day.
2016 was a vintage year for West in terms of trips to AFC Liverpool, as they also picked up a 6-2 away league win that February. Otherwise, there are no further West away wins at AFC Liverpool to speak of.
