Preview
West host Chadderton on Saturday in yet another match that would have to be described as a "six-pointer".
With four games left to play, there is only one playoff place that remains up for grabs, and West sit in pole position with a four point gap between themselves and Irlam in 6th. Two points behind them are visitors Chadderton, who know that a win on Saturday could bring them within three points of the playoff places with three home games ahead of them to round off the campaign. On the other hand, West's superior goal difference will mean that a home win on Saturday will all but end the visitors' promotion bid.
Chadderton were briefly top of the league going into the Christmas fixtures, but a wretched run of form has left their season hanging by a thread going into the final stretch. They have only won two of their eleven league games so far in 2025 and they haven't picked up a single point away from home since early December. That said, their free-scoring early season form showed that they have the potential to be a threat to any side. The first half of Chaddy's season was defined by a series of high scoring encounters, with seven or more goals being scored in 11 of their games before Christmas. Given the win or bust nature of the match for Chadderton on Saturday, they are likely to throw caution to the wind again.
It was one of those high-scoring games when West travelled to Chadderton in the club's final match of 2024. West came away with a remarkable 6-1 win, thanks to a hattrick for Andy Briggs, a brace from Victor Abadaki and a single goal from Jordan Lazenbury. The former two players have had spells on the sidelines recently, but Paul Marshall confirmed after West's recent trip to Ramsbottom that both players are close to returning. Nevertheless, West have boosted their attacking options this week with the signing of Pat Davin. Chadderton have also made a number of signings in recent weeks in a bid to get back into winning ways.
It was a capacity crowd when West hosted Padiham two weeks ago, and it's certain to be another full house on Saturday. Advance tickets can be bought online but those buying on the gate are encouraged to arrive early. The club are also reintroducing a 'happy hour' before the match, where beers can be purchased from as little as £3.50 before 2:30. Full details can be found on the club's social media platforms.

Chadderton were founded in 1946 as a junior football team during the Second World War. They later formed an adult team named Millbrown Football Club, which was initially renamed as North Chadderton Amateurs before finally becoming Chadderton in 1957 and remaining so ever since.
They are founder members of the NWCFL and, prior to their promotion in 2023, they had played in Step 6 for 25 years straight without going up or down. Even then, their demotion from Step 5 in 1997/98 was for ground grading reasons, and their previous promotion in 1991/92 occurred despite them only finishing 12th in the division. Chaddy therefore hadn't experienced a tradition promotion or relegation prior to their recent promotion since the late 1980s. They came close to a second successive promotion in 2023/24 and are amongst the leading pack this season too.
At the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, only Bacup Borough will have played more matches in the North West Counties Football League than Chadderton since the league's formation in 1982.
