West travel to the Anfield Sport & Community Centre on Thursday night to face in-form Lower Breck, in the process reaching a landmark 600 games since joining the NWCFL.
Thursday's hosts have the best home record in the division, winning 15 of the 18 league matches in Anfield this season. The last time they failed to take maximum points from a home game was in October, and this excellent record means they're still just about in the title race. They currently sit 12 points behind league-leaders Bury, although they have three games in hand - two of which are at home and the other a trip to 22nd placed Colne. Bury are in fact the only team to take any points off Breck, home or away, since early November,
4th placed Padiham's win over Ramsbottom on Tuesday night was unhelpful for West, and a result on Thursday night would help put some much-needed breathing space between West and Irlam, who are one place below in 6th having played one game more. It would also represent a league double for West, after late goals from Jack Banister and Billy Matthews secured a fantastic 3-0 win at Brookburn Road in September. Our report from that match is HERE. Having failed to score that night, Lower Breck have registered in every match since.
The host's main threat appears to be Samuel Burns, who has scored four in his last three appearances. Elsewhere, both Elliot Hughes and Tom Croughan have scored three in their last four games, and they have five players who are in double-figures for the season. They do have a tendancy to ship late goals however, and almost a third of the goals they have conceded this season have come in the final 15 minutes.
The Anfield Sports & Community Centre has a large car park and Lower Breck have had an excellent food and drink offering in recent seasons which has included items such as Scouse Pie and freshly cooked Salt & Pepper Chicken.

Lower Breck Football Club was founded in the summer of 2010 in the Tuebrook area of Liverpool. The aim on formation was to establish a youthful group of quality, committed players capable of challenging for honours in all future competitions in the years to come. They played in local leagues for the first seven years of their history, but in 2017/18 they successfully applied for a place in the NWCFL after winning all four competitions they were involved in and going through the whole season unbeaten.
The club almost won promotion from the NWCFL First Division at the first attempt in 2018/19 but, despite scoring 130 goals, came fourth and were denied by Avro and Longridge Town. Promotion was secured over the two covid-affected seasons, Breck were top of the table when the first curtailment arrived and were 4-from-4 at the time of the second lockdown.
They then finished 10th last season and look set on reaching the playoffs, as a minimum, this time around.
