West head to Stockport Town on Monday night, to visit Stockport Sports Village for the first time since making the same journey at the same stage of the 2021/22 NWCFL Division One South title winning season.
Following an emphatic 3-0 win against Glossop North End on Saturday afternoon, West sit amongst half a dozen of team atop the fledgling NWCFL Premier Division table, along with Monday's hosts Stockport Town
With little over 48 hours to turn around between the final whistle on Saturday and kick-off at Stockport Sports Village, West manager Paul Marshall gave reassurance during Saturday's post-match press conference that his side will be ready to go again in what will be a challenging match.
Stockport Town, promoted on points-per-game after losing the NWCFL Division One South playoff final in April, come into their first ever home match in the NWCFL Premier Division looking to build on the 2-1 win at Irlam on Saturday.
Town are captained by Markell Foulds, a familiar name to West fans who hold their former centre-back in high regard. West will travel without midfielder Jake Parker, who suffered a serious knee injury in the early stages against Glossop, though Charlie Whiteoak should be available after suspension.
History
Stockport Town are one of the younger clubs in the division. They were founded in February 2014 and were accepted into Division One of the North West Counties Football League the following spring, where they remained until promotion at the end of last season.
This promotion was unusual in that it came despite losing in the playoff final, to Abbey Hey. A vacancy at step 5 of the non-League pyramid allowed the highest performing step 6 club that had not been promoted on the pitch to be elevated. Town earned that place on a points-per-game basis on the basis. They are managed by Paul Turnbull, who himself amassed 125 appearances for Stockport County and remains the youngest ever player to play for the Hatters.
