After a hugely impressive FA Vase performance at the weekend, West travel north to Barnoldswick Town on Tuesday night in search of another three league points.
The match represents West's first opportunity to complete a league double over another side this season. Less than three weeks have passed since West picked up a fine 2-1 win over Barlick at Brookburn Road, and West have won all four of the competitive matches they have played since then. Barlick, on the other hand, have experienced some notable ups and downs since their journey to M21. They have managed an impressive four points in their league matches against Stockport Town and league-leaders Ramsbottom United, but on Saturday they were beaten 3-0 and eliminated from the FA Vase by Step 6's Ryton & Crawcrook Albion, who are West's opponents in the Second Round of the competition in November.
Barlick are 18th in the table having played far fewer than all the sides around them, primarily due to their progress in several different cup competitions. In the league they have picked up a creditable 1.5 points per game which, if sustained, would see them sit comfortably in the top half of the division. The Macron Cup is the only cup tournament that Barlick are now competing in however and they will be very eager to progress in the league now that their attentions are no longer distracted elsewhere. Only three teams in the division have conceded fewer league goals than Barlick this season and the are likely to be a difficult side to break down.
West do of course remain unbeaten away from home this season and a win will place them top of the NWCFL form table. More importantly, a win would lift West above FC Isle of Man and back into the playoff places. Neither the Ravens (4th) nor Lower Breck (3rd) are playing this midweek and so there is the chance for West (6th) to gain some ground on the sides above them. In addition to this, a win for West would mean they have picked up 28 points from a possible 30, which would equal the club's record over a ten game period. If West are also able to manage a third consecutive clean sheet, they will be the only side in the division who has conceded fewer than one goal per game.
West finished their FA Vase win against Stockport Town on Saturday with nine men. The red cards were issued to Zak Bailey and Victor Abadaki, although both remain eligible to play at Barlick as their suspensions will not take effect until next Saturday.
