Preview
Charnock Richard are next to stand in the way of a West side that has won six of its last seven matches. It's a sensational run of form that has quickly catapulted West into the division's top 10 and to the cusp of the playoff places.
West's current league form is as good as any other side in the division and they approach this game following a memorable 3-1 win at Abbey Hey on Tuesday night. West are playing with the freedom of a side that won't fear any opponents and have good reason to be confident ahead of a meeting with last season's playoff semi-finalists. Charnock gatecrashed those playoffs in spectacular fashion by winning seven of their last eight matches, the final four of which were played over a six-day period after the conclusion of the regular season. The Greens started the current campaign in a similar vein of form by winning five of their first six league games but they appear to have hit a buffer since then, picking up just six points from a possible 30 since. They now sit five places and three points behind West, having played three more games.
Whilst Charnock have lost some key players such as Rustam Stepans and Aaron Griffith in recent months, they do have players in their squad that have the potential to cause damage. Forward Nathan Nickeas, who scored 30 goals for the club last season, remains the spearhead of an attack that has scored over two goals a game despite sitting in the bottom half of the table. The Greens are always a strong side and, even accounting for their recent slump, this will be a tough test particularly for West's defence who are still the leanest in the division having conceded just 14 goals.
It's far too early in the season to be preoccupied with what's happening elsewhere but Saturday's fixture does present a good opportunity to make up further ground on the top five. Of the sides currently above West, Bury and Irlam aren't in league action, Lower Breck's clash with AFC Liverpool sees 4th play 5th, and FC Isle of Man, in 7th, host Padiham, in 10th.

Past Meetings
Last season's meetings were a forgettable 0-0 draw on a cold November afternoon at Brookburn Road and an entertaining 2-2 draw on a Monday evening in March, in which Lewis Billingsley scored what we believe to be West's fastest goal since joining the NWCFL in 2012, timed at 15 seconds.
Charnock Richard are something of a bogey team, with the last West victories coming as part of a league double in 2017/18. In the seven meetings since, Charnock have won four and drawn three.
The 0-0 draw at Brookburn Road last season is West's only clean sheet against the Greens, hardly a coincidence that this was also the first meeting following the retirement of Carl Grimshaw. who had scored in all seven previous meetings - just a handful of his 500+ goals for Charnock Richard.
