Preview
West make the six-mile journey east to Abbey Hey on Tuesday night with the hope of continuing their great run of league form.
West are still unbeaten on their travels this season and a win would move them to within two points of the playoff places. It would also give West the opportunity to enter the division's top 10 for the first time since the opening weeks due to a number of other sides not playing. Abbey Hey are one of the teams that West would leapfrog with a win, and they currently sit one point and one place above West, albeit having played five more matches.
The Red Rebels are playing their first season back in Step 5 following their relegation in 2018/19. And whilst they only managed to pick up a single point in their first four league games, they have certainly recovered well and have picked up some impressive results recently. Two Saturdays ago they beat promotion-chasing Longridge Town 4-1 and they also enjoyed a 6-0 win against Colne at the start of September. They have however lost their last two competitive fixutres whilst conceding nine goals in the process (losing 5-2 and 4-0 to Padiham and Step 6's Droylsden respectively).Abbey Hey are also top - or bottom, depending on your thinking, of the division's disciplinary table.
There are likely to be some familiar faces in the home side's ranks on Tuesday night. Former West players Darren McKnight and Saul Henderson both now play for Abbey Hey, and the club are captained by Joshua Dickin who is the brother of West Women's goalkeeper Meg.
