Preview

West will play their 100th league match since promotion back to the NWCFL Premier Division this Saturday, hosting Barnoldswick Town.

The match will be the first of two league meetings between the sides over the next three weeks as West are also scheduled to travel to Barlick on Tuesday 22nd October. It is also the first of five consecutive Saturday afternoons where West are in action at Brookburn Road.

West go into this match in a fine run of form. Whilst a disappointing second-half performance at Padiham last weekend surrendered the chance for West to pick up a fifth successive league win, the 2-2 draw means that only two sides in the division have lost fewer games than the two that West have lost this season.

West and Barlick have both enjoyed busy cup schedules recently and have only managed to play 11 league games each. Barlick joined West in the 2nd Qualifying Round of this season's FA Cup but fared less well against Step 2 opposition when they were beaten 6-0 by Curzon Ashton.

This will be Barlick's 22nd competetive match of the season, largely due to the fact that they were taken to replays in all three of the FA Cup ties that they won on the way to Curzon. For context, West have played 17 so far.

In terms of league standings, West have picked up two more points than Saturday's visitors. Barlick have lost their last three league matches as they were beaten by FC Isle of Man, Glossop North End and Irlam.  Their main threat is likely to come from William Proctor, who has scored 10 goals in all competitions, but their attack is also boosted by the recent signing of Leon Creech from Darwen after he scored 10 goals in 10 games in Division One.

Past Meetings

West have played Barlick 17 times during the Counties era and have picked up seven wins to Barlick's eight. There have been some high-scoring affairs among those matches and the meetings between the two sides have averaged more than four goals a game.

The most recent of those came at Brookburn Road this January. West won the game 2-1 thanks to a Rhain Davis brace. That win kickstarted something of a mini-revival for West after a six-match losing streak. West also then won their following two matches going into February, but only managed one further win all season.

The season before that also produced a home win when the sides met in M21 as Dontai Gabidon scored a hat-trick in a 5-2 win.

Directions

We encourage supporters to use public transport, cycle or walk if possible.

By car:

There is no parking available at the ground for supporters, except for pre-booked disability access.

Please instead use Hardy Farm, M21 8DP.

Disability spaces must be accessed no later than one hour before kickoff and all vehicles will be unable to exit until 15 minutes after the final whistle to ensure the safety of all supporters leaving the stadium.

There is additional public car parking on Chorlton Ees opposite The Bowling Green pub, who are also allowing supporters to use the pub car park, but there is little other on-street parking.

Please also note that there is no parking available on Brookburn Road itself, nor the surrounding Chorltonville area, as they are privately maintained, exclusively for the use of residents.

By public transport:

The Step Places Stadium is one mile from Chorlton Metrolink station, on the East Didsbury and Manchester Airport lines. Follow Google Maps directions to find your way to the ground.

If you are travelling from outside the Greater Manchester area, the Metrolink network can be accessed from any of Manchester’s central train stations. Visit the Transport for Greater Manchester website for tram times and more information.

By cycle:

The Step Places Stadium is a perfect location for those who cycle, being located next to the River Mersey, Sale Ees and only a few minutes away from the Fallowfield Cycle Loop. We have secure bicycle racks inside the ground to lock up your bike throughout the game. Please ask a volunteer if you need assistance.
