West play their first match in the First Division Trophy since winning the competition six years ago when Nelson visit Brookburn Road.
Andy Nelson's side beat Abbey Hey in the 2013 final at Runcorn Linnets, but promotion to the Premier Division in the same season meant that West were unable to defend their trophy.
Both West and Nelson were given byes in the first round of this season's competition and both come into this game on the back of wins - West saw off Cammell Laird last weekend, while Nelson progressed in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy with Tuesday's 4-1 win at home to Holker Old Boys.
The Admirals currently sit 13th in the First Division North after an inconsistent start to the season and went winless in a miserable September. They also suffered a blow when top scorer Jack Coop, formerly of Maine Road, switched to Prestwich Heys two weeks ago.
Tuesday 10th October 2017, West 2-1 Nelson: Goals from Rick Gleave and Daryl Weston were enough to book West's passage through to the second round of the Lancashire Challenge Trophy. Nick Mullin had given the visitors the lead before West forced a turnaround.
The West team that day: Ashley, Tinker (McGrath), Simcock, Parr, Weston, Potts, Whyment (Rydings), Kilheeney, Woodward, Gleave, Henderson (Bailey).
Matthew Durrant looks forward to this weekend's game.
