For this week’s Juniors Spotlight we interviewed one of the Junior players to find out what he thinks about playing for West and what he knows about his team sponsor. Meet Wilf who plays for West under-17s.
Q: How long have you been playing for West?
I started when I was about six at the Soccer Skills club so I’ve been at the club for ten years now. I’m due a testimonial this year!
Q: How is the team doing?
This is our first year in the Youth League and so far we have won one, drawn one and lost one. We drew 4-4 last weekend, same as the first team!
Q: What’s your most special moment playing for West?
When playing for the under-9s we lost the game 5-2 but I scored my first ever league goal and we went home after the game and re-enacted the goal in the garden, over and over again.
Q: What’s the team spirit like?
It’s really good – the players support each other whether we play well or play badly.
Q: Do you remember when South Manchester Credit Union Started sponsoring your team?
We’ve been sponsored by the credit union for four years. Its nice to wear a shirt for something you know is a good cause and a local company that supports the community.
Q: How did you feel when you received your Young Savers Account with a free £10?
I am always delighted to receive free money!
Now that you are a Young Saver, are you looking to build your savings?
I prefer spending, but I am trying to save.
Q. What are you looking to save for in the near future?
FIFA 21 is top of my list.
Q: What are you looking to save for in the long term?
I’m saving for a car for when I pass my test next year.
Wilf was interviewed by South Manchester Credit Union. SMCU offers financial services to all who live or work in South Manchester. It is a co-operative with deep roots in the community and is proud to sponsor the u17s. For more information visit www.smcreditunion.co.uk
