Wilmslow Town U9 Jaguars v WD&C U9 Orcas

A rewarding win for the Orcas this morning. They produced a dominant first half display, quick passing resulting in two well taken strikes and a cool-as-you-like penalty. When the Jaguars did break forward they met a staunch defence and, aside from one shot that needed a fine save, gave our keeper relatively little to do.

After the break we kept the pressure up and soon added a fourth. No landslide was to come though. The Jaguars pulled one back which spurred them on and perhaps caused us to lose a little focus and nerve. The scoreline reached 4-3, leading to a nail-biting finish as they pushed for an equaliser but we were able to hang on and see the game out. Now the boys have a sunny weekend to celebrate back to back wins in the Europa league.

Goals: Luka (2), James H (1), LJ (1)
PoM: Faris - energetic defending followed by a busy stint in goal, with one eye catching save in particular tipping away a shot that looked destined for the net.

Mersey Valley U10 Falcons v WD&C U10 Harriers

A foul wind greeted the Harriers in a game played in the shadow of the sewage works. A tight first half yielded little, but the Falcons edged it with a goal poked in through the defenders legs. The play leading up to the goal, gathering in the atmosphere, had the whiff of foul play but it wasn’t scented by the referee. The second half rethink didn’t turn out too rosy either as the Falcons hit 3 with no reply. The first was a classy dipping shot from the angle but for the other two our goalkeeper Lucas was left exposed and then got stuck to his line which made the net too inviting to the swooping Falcons. But some positives - we didn’t give in, Tyler hit a well deserved goal, the ball was flowing up the channels again, and the work rate was excellent leaving PoM a difficult choice. It goes to Luke this week who was looking every bit the quiet foundation of the team in defensive midfield.

Goals: Tyler (1)
PoM: Luke

WD&C U10 Hawks v Flixton U10 Vipers

Hawks survived a late scare that nearly saw them throw the game away in this Europa Cup clash. Some lovely flowing football, especially from Ben, Bertie, Rudy and Luca G, saw Hawks in total control, Noah grabbing a hat trick. Player of the Match Angus was a terrier in the tackle. Vipers grabbed three late goals but Hawks held on.

PoM: Angus

Broadheath Corinthians U15 v WD&C U15 Magpies 8-0

With Morale lower than a contest winning Limbo bar, The Magpies, winless since the restart took on a well drilled Broadheath side keen to exact some revenge over a narrow reverse pre Xmas.

Alas, our kind spirited lads were in a very generous mood gifting goals, penalties and time on the ball to their more eager opposition.

There were some sporadic, nice passages of play going forwards, but it all broke down near their box. In ours, it was a different story as the breakdowns came in communication, technical defending and combative reluctance. A 5-0 HT scoreline made for a difficult pep talk.

The second half was a little better, but all too easy for them. There's Corinthian spirit and there's inviting the opposition to come and have a party in your house.

A big thanks to Harvey and Adeyo for stepping in to fill the missing keepers gloves.

The drawing board needs to be re built and supersized for next Sunday when we face top of the league. Hopefully the Nick/Aki out banners will be confiscated at the gate next week. There is a pub next to the pitch at least for some sorrow drowning.

WD&C U17 v Unicorn Phantoms U17 2-1

U17s played away at our closest rivals Unicorn Athletic in an intensely close fought game. Despite dominating the play we were 1-0 at half time from a breakaway goal. Second half we made our pressure count and scored two fine goals from Daniel. Man of the match was centre half Wilf who mopped up every attack and played some great balls out of defence.

Goals: Daniel (2)
PoM: Wilf
