Taken from the programme for the visit of Abbey Hey on Monday 22 April. Programmes available on the gate, £2.
As the season end comes close with two home games I would like the thank everyone involved with the Club at all levels for supporting our efforts to turn things around since we came to the Club in mid-December.
I would also like to praise the attitude and commitment of the players to do their best to keep the Club in the Premier Division of the North west Counties League and I expect this to continue until the final whistle of the final game.
When arrived at the club we were effectively 10 points from safety, with a much inferior goal difference than the teams that we had to catch. At that time I do not think many people would have given us much hope of doing so. A huge amount of work has gone on behind the scenes to transform the performance levels to provide us with a platform to work from, and the players deserve recognition for their part in this.
As I write this article before the Litherland REMYCA game we have reduced the deficit to 4 points although our goal difference also needs some work!
However, our contemporaries are also going to face some tough games in the final run in so all we can do is continue with our maximum efforts in every game and see where it takes us.
If we can win all three games it will give us a fighting chance and winning our next two will make it a very interesting last game of the season against one of my old teams Ashton Athletic!
Meanwhile the four teams directly above us all play each other on this final day, something of a quirk and they can’t all pick up three points so keep the faith! We just need to stay in the game!!
With something of a football drought during this summer it is hoped that there is strong support at REMYCA and for our last two home games against Abbey Hey and Ashton Athletic.
Enjoy the game!
