Match Preview
West welcome Brighouse Town to M21 on Saturday in the FA Cup Preliminary Round. It comes hot on the heels of a disappointing 1-0 loss to Atherton LR on Wednesday night, and manager Paul Marshall will be keen to put that result right in front of what's likely to be a large crowd.
West enjoyed their best ever FA Cup run last season by reaching the second qualifying round before exiting the competition to Darlington of the National League North. Whilst there isn't quite as big a gulf between West and this Saturday's visitors, the West Yorkshire side will undoubtedly be a tricky obstacle to get past to keep this season's run alive.
Brighouse Town play their football in the NPL Division One East - one step above West in the non-league pyramid. They have played at that level for the last 13 years, although they were saved by a reprieve at the end of last season that would have otherwise seen them drop into Step 5.
Town have won one and lost one of their opening two league games, and beat Frickley Athletic in the last round.
West do have recent experience of beating Step 4 opposition though, having knocked Wythenshawe Town out of the Manchester Premier Cup last season and having beaten Vauxhall Rovers 3-0 in the FA Cup the season before.
West have previously played Brighouse Town in this competition, although Town ran out 3-0 winners back in 2014. That match was played in front of a crowd of 87 at Brookburn Road.
If this tie remains level after 90 minutes (plus stoppage time), there will be a replay at Brighouse Town on Tuesday 19th August.
