We are pleased to announce that Ben Elliott has committed his immediate future to the club, signing a contract until May 2023.
The 21-year-old striker becomes the first player in West's history to sign a contract, in what is a landmark moment for the club.
And the contract is a fully-deserved reward for a player who has started this season in blistering form, scoring 17 goals in just 16 appearances.
Ben introduced himself to West fans in September 2020, making his first competitive appearance against Bury AFC in the FA Vase - running almost the full length of the pitch to score a memorable winning goal.
He added two more goals in the abridged 2020/21 campaign, before fully hitting his stride in the 2021/22 promotion season - scoring 29 times in all competitions as we clinched the NWCFL First Division South title.
Ben's goalscoring exploits have naturally attracted the attentions of clubs higher up the pyramid, but he said there were never any doubts where he wanted to play his football.
“There were a couple of other offers but I felt that this is where I belong for the moment and I want to do the best I can this season. Every goal wouldn't be the same without the fans - there's no other club like it.
“I just want to keep pushing on - to do as well as we can this season and progress in the cups, and hopefully have a proper push for promotion next year.”
Manager Chris Rowley said: “I'm made up for Ben. It's a historic moment and shows the growth of the club. It's great to be in a position where we can keep hold of some of the players who are a big part of what we do.
“To develop players is a great advert for us as a club, and to reward Ben with a contract that gives him a bit of stability is fantastic.”
Club chairman Steve Eckersley, also present as Ben put pen to paper ahead of last night's game against Lower Breck, added: “Ben is a key player and in fantastic form, and we have moved quickly to offer him what is the first playing contract in the club's history.
“The contract is a fantastic opportunity for the club and Ben. We look forward to watching the next chapter in Ben’s career and the club's history.”
