West are delighted to confirm the return of prolific striker Chris McDonagh for his fourth spell at the club. The 34-year old returns to the club he previously had spells for twice under Andy Nelson in 2009, 2013 and 2014.
‘Macca’s’ first spell at the club came back in the Manchester League, in a side that contained Lee Gavin and Gary Lilley, where he scored 21 goals in just 12 appearances before earning himself a move to Mossley. There in just 25 games he netted 11 times before moving to Curzon Ashton where he reunited with current West Manager Steve Settle.
McDonagh netting 59 times in just 87 starts in his first two seasons at Curzon but suffered a broken jaw that saw make just 37 apperances and score nine goals over the next two seasons. His recovery included a brief loan spell at West in the winter of 2013 as he looked to regain fitness before enjoying a brief stint at Glossop North End. Macca eventually re-joined West in the 2014/15 season having scored 71 goals in 160 appearances for the Nash.
Macca would net six times in 16 appearances for Andy Nelson’s side before answering new manager Graham Heathcote’s call at Trafford where he would go on to make 54 appearances, scoring 19 times helping the former Altrincham manager help escape the drop zone at the end of 2015.
The forward, who lives locally, spent time with Droylsden and Bamber Bridge last season and re-joins the club following recently becoming a father.
West's first pre-season game see's them take on NWCFL Champions Atherton Collieries this Saturday at Brookburn Road, 3pm KO. Admission is £5 for adults, £3 concessions and FREE for under-12s accompanied by an adult.
