Report: Abbey Hey 1-2 West

Tuesday 5th October 2021, Manchester Premier Cup first round

Abbey Hey 1 (Webb 43)
West 2 (Ford 57, 72)
Att: 118

Oliver Ford’s second-half double took West into the second round of the Manchester Premier Cup.

As in September’s league game at the Abbey Stadium, the home side took the lead on the stroke of half-time, with Rhys Webb on hand to plunder the rebound after Andrew Jones had parried a shot.

But lightning was to strike twice as West improved after the break, and after Ford had shot across Abbey keeper Dane Smith to level the scores on 57 minutes, the West number 7 finished a neat move involving Billy Matthews and Aarron Grewal to put the visitors in front.

West saw out the remaining 20 minutes in comfort to ensure progression in a county cup for the second time in two weeks.

West: A. Jones, Matthews, Westall, Delaney, Messam (Heathcote 66), Graham, Ford, Gavin, Swift (Elliott 86), Grewal (Lewis 81), Eme. Not used: Robertson, Cook.

Eckersley’s Plumbers & Locksmiths Player of the Match: Oliver Ford.
