West Vets return to action with a win

Since the easing of lockdown restrictions West Vets have wasted no time in getting back in action and stretching those legs.

Monday 5th April – West Vets 2 – 1 Northenden Vics Vets

The first game back after restart two, or pre-season three, or whatever name we need to call it, saw the Vets back in action against local side Northenden Vics on Hardy Farm. The visitors opened the scoring midway through the first-half, before West levelled just before half-time through player-manager Kevin Hill’s exquisite finish. West started the second half in full flow and scored a well-deserved second with Danny Iredale netting following a slick passing move involving the whol West midfield. Further chances went begging before the referee called time on an excellent free flowing game.

Friday 9th April – West Vets 2 – 2 Unicorn Athletic Vets

Our second game back saw another local team provide the opposition, this time on the hallowed turf of Brookburn Road. Unicorn had much the better of the first half and went 1–0 up with a free header from close range on the half hour, before further extending their lead five minutes later. West dug in and got themselves back in the match just before half time with Stu Hancocks eigth goal of an excellent season. The second half saw West play the better football and regained equilibrium on the hour mark when Andrew Farren got the better of the Unicorn ‘keeper. West ‘keeper Andy Womack made some smart saves to keep the home side level, and despite a strong finish from West Vets, the game finished level.
