West Vets 8-2 Frodsham Vets – West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC

West Vets 8-2 Frodsham Vets

Glorious sunshine rained down on Brookburn Road as the Vets registered their largest win of the season over the weekend against a Frodsham side who were playing only their first league game of the campaign.

The visitors showed their intent by striking midway through the first half before West finally found their rhythm and their goal scoring boots going in at the interval 3-1 up, with Stu Hancock’s free-kick the pick of the goals.

A stuttering start to the second half saw West go 4-1 up, before ten minutes of pressure saw Frodsham make it 4-22 with half hour to go. The boys then found another gear to score four without reply to finish the game in style.

West goal scorers: Danny Iredale (2), Stu Hanock (2), Carl Clifton (2), Mark Raynes, Faz.

Holmes Chapel Vets 2–3 West Vets

West recorded their second league win in eight days despite only having 11 men available due to a bad accident on the M6.

West’s joint managers Ben Cooper and Kevin Hill spent their afternoon (along with three other members of the squad) managing the team from the M6 J18 Central reservation. The 11 on show put in a sterling performance, with Carl Clifton opening in the first half before Chapel drew level just before the interval.

West regained the lead through a Mark Raynes penalty in the second half, before Chapel again equalised with 20 minutes to go. An explosive second from Raynes secured the three points and West held on for a famous win.

Use of the A roads will now be advised for all away games.
