Rowley: ‘I demanded a response and I got one’
Manager Chris Rowley was happy to consign last week’s defeat at Wythanshawe Town to the history books following two superb home wins in four days against Alsager Town and Abbey Hulton United.
We followed up our trip to Ericstan Park with a record 7-0 win in the rain over Alsager, before a brilliant first half performance sent us on our way to a 3-1 victory against Abbey four days later.
Chris asked for a response from his team and he got one.
He said: “It’s been a great response to the Wythanshawe game. I said on Twitter after that match that there’d be a reaction and that’s exactly what’s happened. We got the reaction that I demanded from the lads and from that I think you can see what type of team we’re starting to become – we’ll battle for every ball and we’ll keep possession.”
One of the most pleasing aspects of the back-to-back wins for the manager was the defensive displays from the side, even if we did score ten goals in two games!
The manager added: “The attacking threats we’ve got are all over the park. It’s not just the number nine or the wide areas, we’ve got threats everywhere. Sam (Heathcote) has been at the back for the games, we’ve shored it up and we’ve not conceded apart from a very dubious penalty right at the end the of the Abbey game. He’s gone back there and we’re still scoring goals, he’s still scoring goals, and everyone is happy.”
Chris also had a special mention to the club staff who helped to get the Abbey game on on Tuesday night, despite 24 hours of non-stop rain in south Manchester putting the game at risk.
He said: “I want to add thanks on behalf of the whole team to everyone at the club who got the game on. We know it can be difficult midweek, especially when the weather was like it was, but we were all desperate to play following the Alsager game so I’m delighted we could get out there and get another three points.
“Huge credit also has to go to Boz (the groundsman) for the condition of the pitch – it was brilliant. It’s been a wet start to the season but the pitch has been superb and all the lads have been saying that.”
