Tuesday night’s goalless draw at Bury AFC extended West’s unbeaten run to seven games, and moved Chris Rowley’s side to within six points of the top six.

The clean sheet at the Neuven Stadium was West’s second in succession and third in six games. That defensive solidity will be required again against a Wythy side that boast the Premier Division’s most potent attack, scoring 79 times this season – 16 more than the second-highest scorers, West themselves.

Wythy’s visit to M21 comes less than a month after West made the reverse trip to M23, running out 3-0 winners thanks to second-half goals from Billy Matthews, Rhain Davis and Jean-Jacques Kirongozi.

That game came in the midst of an awful run for James Kinsey’s side, in which they won just once in nine attempts in all competitions. That streak pulled Wythy from top of the Premier Division to their current standing of 3rd, seven points adrift of leaders Avro, but they did steer themselves back on course with last weekend’s 3-0 win at home to Litherland REMYCA.

They also shook off their league form to defeat Northern Premier League Premier Division side Ashton United in a Manchester Premier Cup semi-final, setting up a final showdown against Radcliffe.
