Recreation Ground to be re-named Step Places Stadium, Saturday 14th December – West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC

Recreation Ground to be re-named Step Places Stadium, Saturday 14th December

This Saturday 14th December 2019 at 1 pm we will be cutting the ribbon to commemorate the new name of West Didsbury & Chorlton’s Brookburn Road ground. A long-standing partnership with Step Places will see the Recreation Ground take on the new moniker of the Step Places Stadium for the rest of the season and beyond, in what is sure to be a special day both on and off the pitch. Our club has been at the heart of the community for decades, providing junior and youth squads both male and female teams from as young as 5 years, food bank support, and providing the club facilities to the community throughout each week. With no guaranteed funding, other than goodwill of the community, fans, and local businesses, we are able to keep going.

To celebrate naming day we’re involving the community, with our Junior sides taking over many of the volunteer roles for the day. From ball-boys through to pitchside announcers, and the most important task – manning the tuck shop! Our Juniours will be taking on every position possible, outside of selling beer.

We are delighted that Harry Dhaliwal, Managing Director of Step Places will be cutting the ribbon. Harry has been a supporter of the club for a number of years and is supporting our development in this significant way.

We would like to warmly welcome you and be delighted if you could join us to help us make a record of such a historic day for both the community and club. Timing of the day:

12:45 – Please arrive
13:00 – Cutting of the ribbon at the gates.
14:00 – Wider guests and sponsors to join us at the club house
14:30 – Junior takeover begins!
15:00 – Kick off: Men’s first team playing against Oswestry Town.

About West Didsbury & Chorlton FC and the sponsorship

As a club, WEST are proud to be a part of our local community – something that the sports grounds at Brookburn Road have been helping to support the community for over 100 years. As current custodians, we’ve been able to support food banks, fundraise for local charities, and act as a focal point for our local area, as well as being one of the best-supported clubs at our level in the country.

Saturday 14th is a significant game this weekend when our ground will be renamed and be known as The Step Places Stadium. The naming rights agreement is for 5 years.

The funding provided to the club by Step Places will be used to support our redevelopment plans for the ground which include:

  • Improved and increased car parking
  • Improved entrance to the ground including provision of turnstiles
  • Improved fencing
  • Increase in the provision of seating in the ground
  • Extension to the clubhouse.

The funding provided to the club has supported the submission of planning permission for the ground redevelopments and will contribute to the match funding required for us to apply for Football Stadia Improvement and other grants.

The clubs Target 50 campaign run by WDCFC is designed to raise the additional funding required to complete the ground redevelopments.
