The post-Brad Cooke era begins with a testing visit to league leaders Vauxhall Motors.

Three days after Cooke’s final game as West manager, a disapponting 3-2 defeat at bottom side Ellesmere Rangers, West face the challenge of halting the Motors juggernaut – Vauxhall’s FA Vase win against Newcastle Benfield on Saturday was their 14th victory in a row, a run stretching back to mid-September. Oswestry Town remain the only side to force Motors off-road in the league, with the 2-1 defeat in Shropshire the only time Vauxhall have failed to take all three points.

It’s 17 years and one week since Motors dumped Queens Park Rangers out of the FA Cup, winning a second round replay on penalties at Loftus Road, but in 2014 financial difficulties forced their resignation from the Conference North and demotion into the West Cheshire League. The club have rebuilt since then and were unlucky to miss out on promotion to the NWCFL Premier Division last season on points-per-game.
