Match Report | West Women 4-0 Cheadle Devs

A comfortable win for West to see us through to the semi-final of the Manchester Challenge Cup and a visit to Curzon Ashton.

It took a while for the game to get going, neither team testing the goalkeepers in the first half hour. The first chance actually fell to Cheadle, as their striker broke through to be one on one versus Skye in the West goal. Skye in turn made an excellent challenge/clearance setting us on the attack. A cross eventually found Taylor Gunn at the back post and she finished well with the outside of her foot.

West’s second goal followed two minutes later, Leah Bowett-Robinson finds herself in space and hits a great effort from 20-odd yards to beat the keeper. 2-0 to West at the break.

West were in complete control in the second half. Their third goal came just after the hour mark, Taylor with the finish from an excellent Vicky Kerr corner. Less than 5 minutes later VK turned provider again. Her free-kick was met by Annabell Veryard whose header was turned in by a defender for an own goal. 4-0 to West.

The reserves had a less enjoyable afternoon, losing 0-4 to GMWFL promotion favourites Mancunian Unity. An impressive first half performance saw them go in just one down at the break, but the visitors pushed on in the second half to go top of the premier division table.
