West Didsbury & Chorlton are pleased to welcome George Blackwell to the club, an exciting young player who goes straight into the squad and will be available for selection for this weekend’s game against Wythenshawe Town.
Signing from Cheadle Heath Nomads, George won player of the match for the opposition in our recent 0-0 draw – and is a player that the management team have long been tracking. Able to play anywhere across the attack, he adds competition to the side – as well as offering somewhat of a goal threat. He’s scored 4 times this season, including a decisive brace in a 5-3 win over Ashton Town.
Speaking on the signing, manager Brad Cooke said, “We have been aware of George for a while. [Assistant manager Rob] Sadler went watching him a few years ago when we was at Atherton Colls, so when we came up against him we knew his qualities. His game has developed massively since then and we have watched him a few more times since. His ball retention is fantastic and his delivery from wide areas is excellent. Thankfully he agreed to join us after we approached Cheadle and I would like to thank them for their professionalism with the matter. He will be a great asset to us and I am looking forward to working with him”
George Blackwell said, “The attacking style of football, ambition of the club and management, and the backing from the supporters is something that excites me”
All at the club would like to welcome George, and we look forward to seeing him in a West shirt over the coming weeks and months
