September Player of the Month: Matt Cook – West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC

September Player of the Month: Matt Cook

With voting now closed, we’re pleased to announce that Matt Cook has earned the supporters’ vote for Player of the Month in September 2019.

An ever-present in a right-back berth that he’s made his own, Cook has been a model of brilliance and consistency. His use of possession and diligent defensive displays have been absolutely crucial to the way that this side play. As a side who spend much of the game on the front foot, Cook’s concentration is key, as is his ability to cut out any opposition opportunities at the earliest possible opportunity. Over the last few games, he’s upped this even as the team’s results have been slightly lower than the near-perfect start to the season. The impressive away win at Runcorn Town in the FA Vase would not have been possible without his ability to transition defence to attack quickly and accurately, not allowing higher-level opposition any quarter as he proved to be crucial in all phases of play. Matt’s impact is perhaps best illustrated by the fact that several of his fellow players seem to have taken the time to vote for him as Player of the Month – the recognition of your peers perhaps being the highest accolade you can hope to receive.

All at the club would like to congratulate Matt on his outstanding month – here’s what voters said about him:

Most consistent player this month, excellent in defence and attack, made RB spot his own

100% all the time ?

He is always committed and is a brill player.

The teams most consistent performer since the start of the season. Goes under the radar a lot but never drops below 8/10 and is important in organising the defence and linking the attack.

Shown great maturity at such a young age. With a great turn of pace & excellent defensive service to his game
