As voted by our supporters, the West player of the month for August is midfielder Dylan Moloney. Having joined the club in the summer having spent some time away from the game, Dylan has quickly become an integral cog in Brad Cooke’s team: his knack for an incisive pass teamed with a steeliness and an eye for goal means he has also won over the hearts of West fans already.
Dylan started the month slowly, however – coming off the bench against Eccleshall (4-0 win), Wythenshawe Town (1-1), Squires Gate (2-1 win), and Stockport Town (1-0), before joining the starting XI for the trip to Abbey Hey. He marked his first start with an instinctive finish to wrap up the game 3-1, and followed that up with the winning goal against Cheadle Town in the next game (2-1), before being an integral part of the side that held Stalybridge Celtic to a draw in the FA Cup over August Bank Holiday. He rounded out the month with a cameo against Barnton (1-0 win), as West ended the month unbeaten and within touching distance of the summit of the league. Of course, this is a team game, and Dylan’s performances have been facilitated by those behind him (goalkeeper Andrew Jones came second in our poll), besides him, and ahead of him on the field.
A side that looked porous throughout the last campaign has turned resolute this time out, earning 4 clean sheets over the course of August while scoring 14 goals over the course of 8 competitive games: one of which involved knocking higher-ranked opposition out of the FA Cup. Dylan has been instrumental in tying together the two sides of our game, and all at the club would like to congratulate him on winning August Player of the Month.
