RECREATION GROUND | BROOKBURN ROAD | CHORLTON | M21 8FE
by Matthew Durrant · 04/11/2018
With nothing left of our bonfire than the ashes, and our rockets all popped, we’d like to take the time to thank all who made yesterday’s event possible. We are a volunteer run club that relies on the strength and generosity of our community in order to make occurrences such as our annual firework display happen: the number of people who offered to give up their own time was a testament to the warmth of those in our local area. To each and every one of our volunteers, whether you set aside an hour to flyer before the event, helped to set-up the club in the lead up to the day, or donned a hi-vis to help keep spectators safe by stewarding, you have our eternal gratitude, and will always be welcome at Brookburn Road. We would also like to send our regards to Wrapscallion, our outside catering provider for this year’s event, both for their efforts over the course of the evening and for the delicious burritos.
Our bonfire is a community event, and as such we hugely appreciate the understanding of both those in attendance and anyone unable to get in once our capacity had been reached. The growth of this event in particular has been enormous over the past few years, and demand this year far outstripped what we had experienced even as recently as two years ago. As such, we’ll be taking into account people’s feedback on ways we can improve the experience for all in our local community. If you were one of the 750 who managed to get through the gate, we hope that you had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and appreciate your patience over the course of the night. If you were unable to gain admittance, we ask for your understanding and hope to see you next year when we should have the capacity and staffing to cope with the increased numbers that now wish to attend our community bonfire.
If you have any feedback on the event, we’d love to hear it – you can contact us here.
Before our 2019 community bonfire comes back around, there’s a plenty of football to be played. We’re a community club, and we’d love for you to be a part of it – regardless of whether you’ve been watching the game for decades, or only have a passing interest, we are committed to an open and inclusive atmosphere at all of our games. Our men’s side are amongst the best supported non-league sides at this level in the country, regularly getting more than 300 at home games; our women’s team remain unbeaten in the league and play attractive, attacking football; we have junior sides at all age groups, a veteran’s side, and we’re constantly looking at ways in which we can further build bridges. Over the last year our fans have donated to local foodbanks and raised money to help fight period poverty, while we have partnered with local charitable organisations to invite volunteers and service users to games, amongst other initiatives.
Our men’s team next play at home this Tuesday against Ashton Athletic in the Lancashire Trophy, before coming back to play Litherland REMYCA on Saturday 17th; our women’s team, fresh from an away win at Chester, are next at home on Sunday 11th November against City of Liverpool. We’d love to have you down. You can also follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to keep up to date on the latest information on the club.
