West to face Beckenham Town

West Didsbury & Chorlton’s tour of London has been confirmed with West travelling to Southern Counties East Leaue side Beckenham Town on Friday 28th July.

The original Beckenham Town were established in the late 19th century, affiliating to the Kent County Football Association in 1887.

In 1923 the club joined Division One of the London League. They won Division One in 1927–28, and were promoted to the Premier Division. However, after finishing second-from-bottom in their first season in the Premier Division, they ended the 1929–30 season in last place, and were relegated back to Division One.

Last season The Becks finished 18th in the Southern Counties East League finishing outside of the relegation places.

Beckenham play their games at the 4,000 capacity Eden Park Avenue and is considered to be one of the best facilities in the area.

That will be followed by a second game the following day when West take on Fisher FC at Salter Lane on Saturday 29th July.

Fisher FC were established in 2009 by members of the Fisher Supporters Club when Fisher Athletic were wound up in the high court due to financial problems.  The new club joined the Kent Invicta League in 2009 and currently play in the Southern Counties East League in which they finished 19th last season,

The Fish play their games at the newly opened Salter Lane which opened in 2016 in the shadow of the city’s Canary Wharf completing a terrific journey for the new club to build their own home.

Club Secretary Rob McKay said; “I’m really grateful to Beckenham Town and Fisher for hosting us; especially on such short notice. Manager Steve Settle has always been keen to take on new teams in pre-season and this club has always been about making new friends throughout its existence. I’d also like to extend a personal thanks to Dan Feeney at Fisher who has helped organised the fixtures.”
