West to field Women’s Development team for 2018/19 season.
West Didsbury & Chorlton are delighted to announce the formation of a women’s development squad for the 2018/19 season.
This season, West fielded a women’s team for the first time in their 119 history and have enjoyed a successful maiden season to date reaching the first round proper of the FA Women’s Cup, the Quarter Final’s of the Manchester Women’s cup as well as winning four of their opening NWWRFL six league games.
The formation of a development squad will allow players making their first steps from junior into adult football the required match experience to allow them to compete higher up the women’s football pyramid. In addition, it will allow additional opportunities for young local players to progress into adult football.
The club has enquired about entering the Greater Manchester Women’s Football League for the 2018/19 season and will be hosting trials in the near future for those wishing to get involved.
Chairman Glyn Meacher spoke of the announcement; “The women’s team have been a terrific addition to the club this season following a great amount of work from Manager Paul Caddick and Rob McKay. Since the start of the season they’ve been a terrific representative of the club both in women’s football and the local community.”
“Since then they’ve worked on the second phase of the club vision that will see the club create a pathway for local players from junior to adult football. With this step we hope to be able to offer junior players making their first steps in adult football for many years to come and become the stand out club for women’s football in South Manchester.”
For players or volunteers wishing to get involved in this exciting opportunity please email Rob McKay at email@example.com or contact him via 07706320397. Open trials will be announced in due course.
