Match Preview

West swap Chorlton for Chorley as we travel to face Euxton Villa in our first away pre-season fixture.

Competing in the West Lancashire League Premier Division – one division below West – Euxton finished 9th last campaign – and will be hoping to push on over the course of this season as they look to emulate local non-league heroes Chorley in rising through the football pyramid. The side said goodbye to their manager of 26 years Mark McDonnell towards the end of the season as he admitted he needed “a bit of a breather”. Taking on the baton was Matt Atherton – a player who made his name at Runcorn Linnets, but turned out for West several times last season at the start of David Powell’s reign. Still only 30, he takes on a player/manager role, and we look forward to seeing him again.

Euxton play at the Jim Fowler Memorial Ground – a 37 minute drive from Chorlton, but difficult to get to via public transport. Those looking to travel will need to enter Euxton Villa, or the postcode PR7 6HH in order to get directions.
