FA Cup & FA Vase: A look back our recent record

With the FA Cup and FA Vase draw about the be made at 1pm today (Friday 12 July), we thought it would be a good opportunity to have a look back at what West have achieved in each competition over the years in preparation for the news.

A reminder that West take on Irlam this evening in a 7.15pm kick off – read our match preview here.

West first entered the FA Cup in 2013, reaching the Preliminary Round – an achievement that we have as yet been unable to surpass, despite reaching the same stage in two of the next three seasons. To set a new record, the club would need to progress in two rounds to reach the First Qualifying Round – and hopefully miss being drawn against 1874 Northwich and Squires Gate, who have both eliminated West twice a piece.

West’s place in the FA Cup is still subject to confirmation following our relegation, although it is envisaged that we will be included in the draw.

The club have fared somewhat better in the FA Vase, with the 2015-16 campaign being our joint most successful – and the most memorable, featuring a club record 15-1 victory at home to Dinnington, followed by a titanic struggle against eventual winners Morpeth Town. Last years loss away at Lower Breck was a portent of things to come later in the season: hopefully a win in the early rounds this time out could mean a more successful campaign all round this time out.

West manager Brad Cooke almost reached Wembley last season as a player, when he captained Northwich Victoria to the semi finals as a player before being knocked out on penalties to eventual winners Chertsey Town – the side that also knocked out tonight’s opponents, Irlam, in the 5th round of the competition.
