West Women 0-1 Fleetwood Town – West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC

West Women 0-1 Fleetwood Town

A game high on effort but low on quality, and a bitterly disappointing home defeat for West.

We had the greater possession in the opening quarter of an hour before the visitors started to impose themselves on the game. Neither team created any clear chances and frankly the goalkeepers could have spent the first half in the bar.

H-T 0-0

The first 20 minutes of the second half followed a very similar pattern, both teams sharing possession but treating the opposition’s 18-yard area as a forbidden zone.

Finally, on 67 minutes we had a shot on target, a rasping drive from outside the area by Biff, well saved by the Fleetwood keeper. A minute or so later Fleetwood had a free-kick on the edge of the West box, but couldn’t make it count.

As the game appeared to be petering out to an inevitable goalless draw, Fleetwood found space 20 yards out and their first shot on target produced the only goal of the game. To be fair, it was an excellent finish to the top corner giving Claire no chance of making a save.
