Match Report | Salford City Lionesses 2-0 West Women

Things got off to the worst possible start for West, conceding a goal in the first minute.

Already struggling for numbers due to injury and illness, we then lost Jami to a hamstring injury on 15 minutes. Leah Dolan, our only sub on the day replaced her.

Salford doubled their lead on 18 minutes. Claire had initially made a brilliant save, but West failed to deal with the subsequent corner and the home team took advantage.

West did start to see more of the ball and had their first shot on target in the 25th minute. We had another couple of half chances in the first half through Taylor and Shortz, but failed to test the keeper.

H-T: 2-0

Caddy tweaked our formation in the second half, and we certainly looked a tighter unit, giving very little away. Having said that, we still struggled to offer much when attacking. Alicia threatened occasionally on the left and Shortz and Leah B-R were working very hard in midfield.

One of the few chances in the half came on 70 minutes when carnage in the West area eventually saw Salford hit the bar before putting the rebound over. On 78 minutes we saw the best header of the game when Claire in the West goal headed a through ball back to almost the halfway line.

West had one more effort in the 86th minute, Taylor’s shot on target but lacking power.
