Preview

Though West’s 100% league record may have evaporated against New Mills, Sam Heathcote’s 87th-minute equaliser preserved our unbeaten NWCFL start and ensured we enter the weekend as one of six teams in a leading pack with seven points.

Nomads, who won three, drew three and lost three of their nine games before last season’s curtailment, are still looking for their first points of this campaign. After opening with two heavy defeats – 4-1 at Cammell Laird on the opening day followed by 4-0 at New Mills – Jake Davies’ side appeared to have turned a corner when they went 2-0 up at home to Abbey Hey last weekend. However, the visitors hit back and Thomas Murray’s 80th-minute winner meant that Nomads currently sit bottom of the early league table.

Last time we met

Saturday 25th January 2020, Cheadle Heath Nomads 0-5 West: West crushed Cheadle Heath Nomads with a devastating second-half display to move up to fifth in the First Division South.

James Hooper’s debut goal gave West a slender lead at the interval, but Chris Rowley’s side turned on the style after the break as George Blackwell, Billy Matthews, James Cottee and Josh Tinker all scored to continue West’s increasingly-impressive start to 2020.

West line-up: A. Jones, Cook, Gabidon, Tinker, McLellan, Heathcote, C. Jones, Gavin (Ryan 65), Matthews (Coley 79), Hooper, Blackwell (Cottee 73). Not used: Argent-Barnes, Dale.

Goals: Hooper 42, Blackwell 55, Matthews 70, Cottee 76, Tinker 89.
