West are set to finally return to action when they visit nearby Wythenshawe Amateurs in an early kick-off.
A month has passed since West’s last game, a 2-0 First Division Cup defeat at home to Sandbach United, with three home matches falling victim to the weather in the interim. But conditions look to have cleared just in time for Chris Rowley’s side to resume their promotion push in M22.
The West fans descending on Hollyhedge Park will probably still be rubbing the sleep from their eyes come kick-off, but Rowley’s side will need to be alert from the first whistle if they are to claim three valuable points. An Ammies side reduced to nine men pushed West all the way in Rowley’s first game as manager, and a single-goal defeat to Abbey Hulton United last time out ended a run of three straight wins.
Last time we met
Tuesday 17th December 2019, West 2-1 Wythenshawe Amateurs: Chris Rowley made a winning start to life at Brookburn Road as James Cottee’s late goal saw off nine-man Wythenshawe Amateurs.
This was a true game of two halves with a forgettable first half giving way to a second period that bordered on the surreal, the visitors taking the lead then losing two players in the space of seven minutes. Dylan Moloney levelled from the penalty spot before substitute Cottee ended the Ammies’ resistance.
The West team that day: A. Jones, Cook, Cooper, Tinker, Middleton, Forbes, Miller, Moloney (Davis 71), Grimshaw, Boland (Gabidon 87), Blackwell (Cottee 61).
