It was the best of times, it was the worst of times… Like the travails of the United and the recent 2 faced performances of the two Cities.. This weekend, the youthful West experienced polar opposites in both weather and results. Some defensive face blocks and dark sorcery was at play within our junior ranks as some of us had some distinctly Shaky performances..

Urmston Meadowside Panthers v West Didsbury and Chorlton Harriers U9s
Lost 6-1.
For the second week in a row the scoreline didn’t reflect the balance of play with Chorlton controlling for long spells of the match. Tyler launched a ballistic assault on the opposition goal which ultimately paid off with a shot looping high into the net. There was improvement to be seen all over the pitch and a first win is surely now within grasp of the Harriers especially when they get back to full strength. A mention also for new boy Vaughan who put in a solid performance in defence.
U9s Hawks 1 -13 Sale United U9s
Hawks suffered just their second defeat of the season to a strong Sale outfit.
Hawks were without a number of players and the match day squad of seven gave everything. After a difficult first period, Hawks improved by passing better and working harder. Players took knocks but kept going, exemplified by man of the match Angus who blocked two goal bound shots with his face!!
Lucien, Ben, the two Berties and Luca worked tirelessly and captain Joe made a series of crucial tackles. A guest player from Sale scored a late goal and Hawks kept battling until the end, deserving their end of game flapjack in the warm September sun.

Under 10 Owls lost to Alderley Wizards at home 4-11. Scorers: Oliver Copley-Gould 2 and Oscar Maghee 2. POM Frankie Pennington. Good performance by Blake Ellis and Lorin too.
U10 Kestrels stayed strong and focused throughout a challenging match against a very impressive @altyjnrs Blaze who confidently took the win 11-3.

U14 Egerton Tatton vs U14 Magpies
Saturday seemed to signal the end of summer as the darting swallows of the early autumnal heat were replaced with puddle hungry ducks.
After the storms and rain passed through Cheshire, the win-less Magpies arrived in Knutsford and were greeted by an immaculate Egerton playing surface. Better news was to follow as the oppo could only muster 10 non-vomiting players, with 2 in the ranks touch and go.
The slick, passing surface made for a decent start, but a couple of defensive errors saw us go in 2-0 @ HT. Surely, the 10 men would tire?
Alas, we gift wrapped a 3rd early in the 2nd half to make it a big uphill challenge.
The 3rd goal seemed to jolt the boys as we stepped up our performance in the 2nd half. We kept the ball, and had some good periods of play. A good intricate passing move saw Joe Haworth get a left shin pad on to a cross, and steer the ball into the bottom corner.
2 minutes later and another slick move down the right flank ended with a diagonal run into the box, and a first time finish from the Hitman. Hello? comeback?
Alas, goals 4,5,6 and 7 killed us off. There was just enough time at the end for a crash (Hitman upended), bang (powerful pen and save) and wallop (followed in the rebound with brute force).
Some good periods of play, but too many gifts offered meant that in the end it was us that had the sickening feeling in the stomach.

Well there was nothing friendly about this alledged “friendly”
The opposition behaved as if they’d been fed raw meat for a week to get them to a state of near savagery for the game !
We already had an availability issue & this morning our bare bones 11 became 10 with a late call off ? the opposition played the entire match with a full 11 (& a number of subs on the bench) a couple of our lads took “knocks/kicks/barges & general assaults” in the 2nd half but kept going.
We took the lead with about 20 mins to go & hung on with grim determination for a courageous “backs against the wall” victory
Huge respect to all the lads for their heroic efforts ??you made your coaches very proud !
U16 Girls had a good 3-7 away victory against East Leigh, meaning West Didsbury & Chorlton are now top of the South Manchester Girls Football League U16 Division 2. Scorers were Teagan Coachrane, Sadhbh Fleming MacDonald, Courtney Lamb, Antonia McConnell Slaven and Alisha Evans.
East Leigh took the lead at the start of the match and West took a little time to find their feet. However West gradually imposed themselves and the game then turned with a series of high-velocity goals from West.
It represents an excellent start to the season with two wins and one draw, building the girls’ confidence and team spirit. They have known both ups and downs in previous seasons with other clubs so it’s great to sense the excitement, growing confidence and friendship within this new emerging team.
U18s v Wilmslow U18s
Really poor performance and got a well deserved thrashing 0-7 could of been a lot more. Serious conversation at training needed to highlight attitudes and commitment to be part of this team.
