Junior Round-up | Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th September

Collated by Nick Syrett

The car park was once again a hub of activity early on Sunday morning as a few of us answered the cry for help from club supremo Tim. For the second week running he was struggling with erection difficulties. A helpful suggestion here, and a tamper of nuts there and the new goal posts were built allowing us to get our own midday games going. The theme that things were harder than they should be and not quite doing their job was a theme that had set the tone though.  Gameweek 2…Getting there.

U9s Harriers v Broadheath Bocas

Alas we lost 6-2. It was a competitive match this week in which the Harriers showed their skills in breaking down the opposition and transitioning to attack. The scoreline flattered the away team and the manager’s faith in Tyler’s right foot was rewarded with two well taken goals. Olly S and Max H we’re welcome additions to the squad after missing last week – both should consider themselves unlucky not to have got on the scoresheet.

WDC u9s Hawks 12-1 Broadheath Central u9s Spartak

The Hawks bounced back from last week’s defeat with an emphatic away victory.

Sam started the scoring in the first minute and quickly completed a hat trick plus another as the Hawks ran amok in the early stages.

The goals continued as movement and quick passing from Joe, Luca B and Noah was too much for the home team. Luca G held firm at the back and started attack after attack with excellent distribution. Bertie C was a constant threat throughout the match with his mazy runs and crossing from the right flank.

Man of the match: Ollie bagged five, Lucien added two and Ben rifled in from long range.

U10 Owls were beaten 11v1 away by Wilmslow Colts. Oliver Copley-Gould scored goal. Lorin was Player of the match

U10 Eagles v Urmston Wolves (h)

Won 8-6

Scorers: Jake (2), nico (3),    Yuri, Isaac and og

PoM – Fionn

Played well and raced into 7-2 lead. We let them go 8v7 and score got back to 7-5 then went 7v7 again. Good game and run out for the lads.

Our resilient U10 Kestrels suffered their first defeat today, 5-3 against @wythenshaweafc U10 Leopards. We were missing a member of our squad who we hope is back in action very soon. Coaches POM is No 6 LH for always fighting back and keeping the GD low!

U12 away v Sale

Lost 3-1

Scorer – Ted Christon

PoM – Jacob William

All the boys worked hard but we couldn’t quite match last weeks great passing and movement.

Nil nil at half time but a slow start to the 2nd half saw us go 3–0 down.

A couple of brilliant saves from Alfie kept the score respectable and a late flurry of chances bought us a goal and some hope of a come back, but we couldn’t quite manage to get back on level terms.

Promising debut performance from Kenta.

Under 13’s Falcons drew away 3-3 at Wimslow Tigers. Starting as the team trying to play football against a team who seemed more interested in wrestling. Somehow they got a pen for some unknown reason and were ahead but we equalised after Gave danced into the box and scored with a good low shot. We dominated possession.,  secure at the back and making chances well into the second half we fell victim to another penalty award and buoyed by going ahead they soon got another. With less than 10 left we kept playing good football and Jack scored and with 5 to go Jonah slid in the equaliser. Their keeper made another good save and we created several more openings before the final whistle and their coach was relieved to get out with a draw. It was a real pleasure to watch the team play and they were a credit to the club.

U14 Magpies v Timperley villa

Hardy Farm

A Magpie team robbed of the services of 2 energetic regulars in the midfield required a Tim-like call for help for others to step up. With a few lads playing their first game of the season and confidence low in a team that has lost more than they’ve won in 2019, we had our work cut out.

New recruit Sonny “The Face” Wilson, fresh from a sportswear modelling shoot, laid it on a plate for his old china Jack the Hitman to open the scoring. Hanson-esque sloppy defending saw us pegged back to 1-1 before a slick passing move of 6 or so one touch passes ended up in our net. 1-2. Bravo. Fair play. Top football. HT.

The new “model” pro was on hand at the far post to turn in a “cool hand” Fookes through ball to bring back parity. From parity came charity as the hitman was decked in the box. The little nugget dusted himself down and cooly slotted the penalty past the sub keeper. 3-2. Rather than manage the game, we managed to shoot ourselves in the foot as Timperley were quicker to react to the loose balls in our box and raced in to a 3-5 lead.

With the game seemingly done and only a couple of minutes on the clock, the Hitman completed his second hat trick in 2 games as he opportunistically lobbed the keeper with a first time, clipped shot from the edge of the box.  4-5.

Any hope of an underserved point evaporated with a late solo dribble through a fading back 3.

Final score 4-6. We huffed and puffed but ultimately were a bit limp for too many of their goals. An improvement on last week, but we need to be more solid defensively as a unit.  Perhaps Tim can help with our rigidity…

Goals:

Sonny Wilson 1 Jack Haworth 3.

POTM :Sonny Wilson.

U14 Badgers vLymm Rover Predators (h)

Won 10-6

Scorers: Teddy (5), Austin (2), Danny, Joel, Kayden

PoM Isaak Hynes

Played well and battled back from 0-2 down to make it 2-2 and then came back from 3-5 down at half time. True grit and desire to win, another good performance in the league.

U 15′ v Egerton (a) (Won 8 – 1)

A solid performance from the lads in difficult circumstances – we suffered a series of injuries in the 2nd half and were left with effectively 10 & 1/2 players on the pitch.  The lads dug in and held on for a well earned victory ! Strong, resilient performances all round with Mani picking up PoM…fingers crossed we’ll have 11 fit and available players for next week.

Our U16s girls continued their unbeaten start to the season as they earned a hard fought draw away to Lymm in the SMGL league on Saturday (see photo via twitter page)

U16s Boys –  are all gutted. Playing against a decent Wythenshawe amateurs side we went into a 4-1 half-time lead with goals from Benji Reed (2), Nicquille Clifton and Oli Carter. In the second half we lacked concentration and conceded 2 headers to smallest player on their team. A penalty conceded made it 4-4. At the end we missed three chances to win the game with strikers through 1 on 1 with the 15 year old ‘bearded’ keeper. Unfortunately the clinical finishing was absent and the game finished an exciting but disappointing 4-4 draw. MOTM was Benji Reed. With 2 goals and 1 assist.
