Report: West 1-0 Stalybridge Celtic

Saturday 10th July 2021, friendly

West 1 (Grewal 10)
Stalybridge Celtic 0

Aarron Grewal’s early goal was enough to edge West past Stalybridge Celtic and record a first win of pre-season.

Grewal latched on to Ben Elliott’s through ball and finished neatly across the Stalybridge keeper to give West a lead they never seriously looked like letting slip.

Elliott came closest to adding a second midway through the second half when cut in from the left wing and found space in the Celtic box, but his shot was well saved.

The visitors’ best chance came in the dying moments when Louie Chorlton steered a cross wide of the near post.

Chris Rowley was effusive in his praise of his side post-match: “That’s what we know we’re capable of. We know that if we turn up and put in everything, and have a genuine shape to our team, we know we’ve got the players capable of giving anyone a game.”

West make the short trip to Irlam next Tuesday, 13th July, to continue their preparations ahead of the NWCFL season.
