West keepers to take part in Didsbury Blues ‘Beat the Goalie’ at Didsbury Festival, Saturday 8 June
This Saturday, West are proud to be working alongside club sponsors Didsbury Blues as they look to raise money as part of Didbsury Festival. Over the last few years, the club has been able to send down representatives from West, as well as goalkeepers to take part in their annual Beat The Goalie competition – and, this year, we’re happy to have both the Men’s and Women’s sections involved. Former Men’s Reserve Team goalkeeper Daniel Green and Women’s first team goalie Leah Fish will both be donning the gloves, with the occasion also representing the official launch of West Women’s new away kit, sponsored by Didsbury Blues.
Elsewhere at the festival, there will be music, a dog show, a funfair, charity stalls, talks, and much more besides. It all begins with a procession at 11am leaving from St Catherine’s School on School Lane, Didsbury M20 6HS, and the event runs all day at Didsbury Park, Wilmslow Road, Didsbury, Manchester, M20 5LS – you can download the Didsbury Festival 2019 brochure here. Each year Didsbury Blues tries to raise as much money as they can for the charity, City in the Community.
They have succeeded in raising money at the Festival since 2009 through a range of popular events held in the smaller field including a ‘beat the goalie’ competition, coconut shy and a lucky draw stall.
The beat the goalie competition raised over £400 for charity and the aim is to beat that total this year. You should have a go!
Didsbury Blues also organise an all day concert of local bands and individual musicians, which has established itself as a popular feature of the Festival. A sort of music fringe event, not yet a Glastonbury, but it is popular and who knows how it will grow? If it’s sunny you can have a picnic!
