With the youth teams fixture list starting to look like like an end of term nightmare littered with crucial match ups, mid week banana skins and the odd final, it is the business end of the season for many. A large can of WD40 has been issued to many a manager to aid their squeaky bums. Bring on the run ins!!

“ A wonderful performance. We let opposition play 8 v 7 when got to 5-0 and then 9 v 7 when got to 6-0. The referee commented on the sporting behaviour by players and coaches”.
The U9 Owls lost 4-2 Away to Wilmslow Town Jaguars. “Suhaib Singh and Harris Begum scored x1 each. PoM Luca Gore for his excellent defence and goalkeeping. All of the Owls played their best with no subs to support tired legs/wings”

Sunday 31st March
The Under 12’s won away 0-1 at Wilmslow town tigers in a very even and tough encounter made difficult in a rather strong wind. “We were 0-0 half time fighting against the wind. Our emergency centre back, Rory Casey Wright, was asked to continue his magnificent role at the back and we couldn’t afford to put Jess in goal second half and lose her ball winning and good distribution so Dylan was also asked to stay in goal and all 3 had great games.. with the wind at our back we put on more pressure and from a throw in Sam Maher scored an outrageous goal spinning with back to goal to half volley into far corner. Several chances were set up but not converted and Tigers were a constant menace but all of the defence took turns to thwart their advances. Pom Rory but great team effort all round.”

As the 2 teams took to the lush, giant sized pitch, only a few of the enormous opposition seemed to fit the stature and surroundings of this lovely playing surface. In bright, spring sunshine, the game began well with the Gazelle-like wing forward Joel, chipping the keeper from the far corner/edge of the box to take the lead inside the first 5 minutes. This seemed to rattle the giant sized kids residing in their solid midfield who started taking pot shots from everywhere. Ruthless finishing inside the box saw our keeper given no chance with 3 efforts that sailed into the top corners as they took all 3 chances in the next 20 minutes to deflate the keen Badgerlings. The lads were stirred into prompt action and fought back bravely creating half a dozen good chances. Unfortunately, we saw more misses than Richard Burton (Google it youngsters) and went into the half time break 1-3 down and wondering if those missed opportunities would come back to haunt us.
A strong start to the second half saw Joel’s shot crash against the angle of post and bar before our bubble was seemingly burst when they scored again to make it 1-4. The coaches sounded the bugle for all out attack and through a well taken turn, spin and shot (Kayden) and a Teddy effort with 5 to go making it 3-4 the fans dared to dream.. was it possible? A rightfully disallowed goal chalked off for offside prevented what would have been a fair reward, and the badgers ended up missing out and rueing those missed chances. A sad looking badger in a bridesmaid dress is not a pretty sight. Unlucky lads. It was a great effort and one of their performances of the season. Hard lines.
The Under 15s played an afternoon kick off at Hardy Farm against Wilmslow Town. West burst into a quick fire 3-0 lead with a free kick from Nicquille Clifton, a penalty and a gift of a defensive error favouring Daniel Eaton. The Wilmslow manager exuberantly encouraged his team with one of the loudest and boisterous touchline performances of the season and Wilmslow duly hit back to make it 3-1 at half time. It was the same story in the second half as Daniel Eaton scored 3 more to bag 5 in a man of the match performance before Wilmslow hit back with 2 late consolation goals in response. Final score 6-3. U15s are joint top with 3 games to go. Unfortunately those 3 games are against joint top, 3rd and 4th so it’s going to be a tough end to the season. Cue squeaky bums.
